In-Situ Coal Gasification

At several locations coal is gasified underground as shown in the following diagram. Oxygen is injected underground to produce coal gas. Carbon dioxide is recovered and reinjected into the ground. The preferred location for this technology is near an oil producing formation so that the carbon dioxide can be used.  In North American and elsewhere many oil reservoirs are overlain by multiple coal seams. Closed loop systems that provide carbon dioxide and nitrogen for pressurizing the reservoirs and clients could provide existing geological information and the required new wells.
